VAINGLORY
You sit high on your throne
of self-righteous dignity,
Forbidding others to
Climb those steep steps
To ease you down
Onto your feet
The muscles atrophy
And the skin
Slides over your bones
To hang and tremble
As you move,
Yet no one may
Come to save your body
As it slowly dries and shrivels
You shall feel,
Feel Death crawling
Upon your skin,
Inching its way
To your soul
As you sit on your throne,
Dying
Still,
No good soul
May rescue you from
Your definite demise,
For your pride would
Be wounded so...
VANITY
Time stands still
In the ageless mirror
Reflecting one image
For all eternity
Gazing into a reflection
Unable to tear the eyes away,
Lest disturb the calm
Serene waters of time,
And wrinkle like
Ripples across a lake
A modern Cassiopeia
Framed in the looking glass,
Forever young and beautiful
Lies down by the water
To gaze on an
Ageless reflection
The tides shall turn
And the still waters
Shall quake with rage,
Shall swallow the mirror,
And become nothing in the
Endless spiral of time
So I decided to do one for both! There are more to come, obviously. Hope you like them!!!
